Random Photos: My Husband as a Boy

One of the fun things about digitizing many (most?) of our photographs last year was discovering things about my husband as a boy that I’d never known. We didn’t meet until he was in his mid-twenties, and he’d just spent five years as a U.S. Navy officer. He was a pretty serious guy, though he could be sentimental at times.

Over the years, I’ve gleaned a few things about my husband’s childhood, mostly from his sister. But he was her big brother, and perhaps she had a bias. My sense from her is that he lorded his older sibling and male status over her.

This first snapshot depicts how I imagined their relationship. Here he is with his sister and cousin, both younger girls.

But then I found this photo, in which he is acting goofy in an inner tube with his dad. I’m glad to know he could be goofy as a kid. Goofiness has not been a prominent trait in his adult life. Our kids might be surprised to know their father ever made a funny face.

Do you remember your siblings acting goofy? Are they still goofy?

Oh my, yes, more times than I can count. We were a very theatrical family.
